Adult Speech Therapy

Adults seek out speech therapy services for a variety of reasons, not just the ones listed in our menu. Here are just a few! If you have questions about whether Loud & Clear Speech Therapy provides a service that you may find beneficial, feel free to reach out to us. If we don't think we'd be a good fit, we probably know someone who would be!

Articulation Therapy: Many adults struggle to produce certain speech sounds, even if they had speech therapy as a child. Commonly impacted sounds include "R", "L", and "S" (difficulties with "S" are sometimes called a "lisp"). Adults with articulation differences can often fall into a "no-man's land" where many adult-centered clinics do not offer articulation therapy, but many pediatric clinics specializing in articulation therapy do not work with anyone over 18. This is where we come in!

Public Speaking: Learning how to speak in front of others is a vital skill for many adults in the workplace and in their community, and can be especially challenging for neurodivergent individuals navigating a neurotypical world. "Public speaking" doesn't just mean giving a presentation to a crowd of 100+, it can look like communicating with your loved ones over dinner or speaking up during book club! Learn how to adjust your speaking rate, volume, cadence, and breath support to create a more confident and engaging voice.

Voice Therapy: Common voice disorders seen in adults can include excessive strain or tension while speaking, breathy or hoarse vocal quality, speaking too loud or too quietly, and discomfort while speaking. These are often seen in individuals with vocally-demanding jobs (such as a teacher or performer), those with other chronic health conditions, or adults as they age.

Swallowing Therapy: Difficulties with swallowing (also called "dysphagia") can arise for a variety of reasons. If you've received a diagnosis of dysphagia, our providers may be able to help virtually! We usually ask that you have already had some type of imaging assessment (such as FEES [fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing] or MBSS [modified barium swallow study]) before requesting treatment services, because unfortunately we don't have x-ray vision, and we can't treat what we can't see! We offer McNeil Dysphagia Training Protocol (MDTP) therapy and other types of swallowing therapy depending on your needs.
